Dr Who - Classic Mix by RRW (749k)
I recorded this digitally using sounds from a Yamaha DX7 and TARDIS samples. It's a theme tune for the nineties, but without losing sight of the original version. I've restored the original mode of the piece from its change in the 80s to a simple minor key (McCulloch's version). The original was in the key of E, but used only the white notes (which makes it a Phrygrian or something! Answers on a postcard to...)This helps give it back some of the mystery which was lost. (Was Keff aware of this, I wonder, or didn't he realise? ;-) This was the version we used on Regeneration Of The Daleks - Enjoy!
Dr Who - Retro Mix by RRW(704k)
This is a version of the theme tune which was originaly intended as a tribute to the sixties version. It is reasonably authentic up until the "chorus", where I have added elements from each of the 80s versions, such as a Keff-style fuzzy voice, Dominic Glynn's trademark pitch-bend and various Howell-sounding FX here and there...
Dr Who - Jubilee Mix by RRW (1.3 meg)
This is a full length rearrangement of the original theme and in my opinion the best of the three, taking almost three times as long to create. The sounds are a lot more layered, often with nine or ten separate tracks running together at the same time to create a much thicker texture. Heavy used of spacy phased sounds gives the piece a psychadelic feel, and a more authentic bass sound recreates the atmosphere of the 1980 Peter Howell remix, with touches of Dominic Glynn's Trial of a Timelord version. We're going to settle with this version from now on as it's our favourite - expect to hear it soon in our story "Jubilee"...
Viewers in Britain might have seen Bill
Bailey's hilarious Dr Who stand-up sketches on TV, but for those
abroad or thosewho missed it, I managed to record his Belgian
Jazz version of the theme tune "Doctor Qui"
as a high quality mp3 for all to hear. This isNOT by us - it's
from the TV. Officially it's copyrighted by the BBC, but I don't
see why they should mind anyone else listening to it seeing as it
was openly broadcast to all on British terrestial TV.
Anyway, it's a must for all Dr Who fans!!
(Anycopyright objections from the owners, please mail us. We'll
remove it straightaway.)
